The FORT Wayne Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the FORT Wayne Swim Team to offer age-specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities. Practices and meets are not mandatory; the selected number of days is what is offered, not mandated to attend. It is up to families to determine their level of commitment.

BRONZE GROUP

This group offers practices 4 times per week for 1 hour and 15 Minutes each practice. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four competitive strokes and the basics of starts, turns, finishes, and dryland. SILVER GROUP

From the Bronze group, athletes move into the Silver group. We offer practices 4 times per week, with each practice lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes. Athletes in this group will focus on continued stroke work, with a focus on consistency, while introducing developmentally appropriate training. They will fine-tune skills such as flip turns, pull-outs, and starts. Twice a week, this group has a 30-minute dryland session. This is to introduce the fundamentals of coordination, mobility, flexibility, and a broad vision of athleticism. Gold Group

From the Silver group, athletes move into Gold. Athletes in this group are usually at least 9 years old. Gold group athletes will practice 5 times per week with each practice lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes + twice a week will have two 30 minute dryland sessions.  This group is exposed to more specific training as they prepare for longer races. Middle School Groups

We have three training groups here - Red Group: beginning level, White Group: intermediate level and Blue Group: advanced level.   Athletes may enter these groups after the completion of 5th Grade or at the discretion of the Gold group coach and Head Age Group Coach.  Practices are available 5 times a week for 1 hour 45 minutes each, plus 1/2 hour of dryland 3x per week.  During practice, athletes in the Middle School groups work on developing better stroke techniques with drills for all four strokes and increasing their endurance.  Technique take precedence over training, while athletes are challenged to think about their stroke while swimming and apply the techniques of the drills worked on in practice to their swim sets.  Click here for detailed Red group description  Click here for detailed White group description  Click here for detailed Blue group description

Senior Group

Athletes entering the High School / Senior group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present. Athletes in the High School/Senior group should begin to take personal accountability/responsibility regarding swimming areas - this includes (but is not limited to) consistent/regular attendance, goal setting, nutrition, proper sleep habits, etc.
